FINGERPRINTS – By ElizaBeth Coira

could god be what we do to each other?

An embryo
I yawn
Stretch open
Reaching
Yearning
To make my mark

Both what I’m given
And what I create
What I brush up against
What I embrace

This is the making
Of human
Fingerprints
Though as I stare
At a tree

I notice the rings
Like my index fingers
Akin

Perhaps
We too
Are family

God
What we do
To each other

STAND UP STRONG GIRL – By ElizaBeth Coira

All days of my life I grow so tired
Of the assaults, insults, mistakes
Injuries, injustices, hatred, fear
Flung at me simply for being female
We must stand up
Together
Strong

I don’t need
Stilts or stilettos
To teeter totter
My way through life

I don’t need
A pale withered frame
To drag me down
As I wander around

I don’t need
Dainty day clothes
I’m not here
To play your game

I don’t agree
To run your race
Houses and TV’s
Mean little to me

What do I need
A strong heart
Strong base
Strong head
Strong legs
To get me where I’m going

What do I need
Fresh air
Sunshine
Wide open space
To be as I please

What will it take
To love myself
Stand up
Strong girl
To sad society
