Will this world burn?
It already is.
Another day I can’t really go
Outside
Without poison invading my lungs and eyes
The smokey haze of forest fires
Extreme heat
Too many days
Without the cool embrace of rain
While climate change deniers
And public health protections
Get louder
Dry out
A sick joke feeds the haze
The ego, greed, hate, fear
Hurt, corrupt more hearts and minds
I wonder if the devil
Has reserved a place
For Trump, his family, donors, supporters
And the common voter
–All enablers of an unspeakable, unfathomable, undeniable evil
I wonder what have I done
To deserve such company
For surely Paradise
Is the Here and Now
Planet Earth as Heaven
There’s a case to be made
As well as for those who choose otherwise
Farm out her virtues
To the highest bidder
Sell off her honor
To the basest of bastards
I’d like to say
I’ll see you in hell
But so many books claim
This is All
And since we must sit
Tete-a-Tete
I suppose I shall thank you
For marching us straight
Into the depths
Who votes for the devil
To do God’s work
I sure as hell didn’t
And we shall not forget
Those of you who do
One of your most powerful poems. Thanks for your bravery in writting it.
