FINGERPRINTS – By ElizaBeth Coira

Fingerprints_ElizaBeth Coira_HomeGrownSojourner

An embryo
I yawn
Stretch open
Reaching
Yearning
To make my mark

Both what I’m given
And what I create
What I brush up against
What I embrace

This is the making
Of human
Fingerprints
Though as I stare
At a tree

I notice the rings
Like my index fingers
Akin

Perhaps
We too
Are family

God
What we do
To each other
